Description: The event was organized on 30th July’05 where representatives  from companies like Satyam, HP, TCS and many more gave  criteria’s they were looking forward in an employee.

 

      Event Name :  COLOSSEUM’05

Date : 29th and 30th September’05

      Description :  Colosseum 2005 –The Battlefield of Technocrats, a state level technical symposium was organized on 29th and 30th September’05 at Nirma University. The goal of organizing this event was to encourage creative, innovative thinking and cultivate a competitive spirit among engineering students of Gujarat.                              The two days of Colosseum’05 featured a varied collection of events including the launch of the book ‘An Ethical Guide To Mobile Hacking’ and an expert lecture by Mr. Ankit Fadia.

 

     Event Name : ‘TWISTER’-The Cyber Storm

        Date : 3rd Oct. 05

        Description : On the foundation day of Nirma Institute of Technology, CSI organized  Twister, a computer related open quiz competition, with a participation of more than 75 students.

      Event Name: “C++CLUSION”

Date: 6th March’06

Description:     Logical reasoning and technical skills are very vital in today’s competitive world. With this realization, CE Society of India (CSI) - Nirma Student Branch, organized “C++Clusion, creating a C and C++ game using graphics on the Foundation Day of CSI.

 

Event Name: “Gyan jyoti”

Date: Every Saturday

            Description: Continuing with the tradition of CSI we are organizing the “Gyan Jyoti abhiyan” this semester on every Saturday. The main aim of this event is to go to the Municipal schools as well as schools run by NGO’s and provide the unprivileged students basic information about CEs and inform them about  how CE could help them succeed in their life. Besides the knowledge about CEs we also try to improve their speaking skills and thus help them in their all round development.

 

       Event Name: “Tetrathlon-II”

 Date: 4th February’06

Description: Management skills, Logical reasoning and Communication skills are as important as technical skills in today’s competitive world. With this realization, CE Society of India (CSI) - Nirma Student Branch organized “Tetrathlon-II”. The response to the event was overwhelming, with 45 teams, from 2nd, 4th and 6th semester students of all departments.

 

      Event Name: A workshop on TSR-“Terminate and Stay Resident

                          Program”

      Date: 18th February’06

Description: Keeping with its tradition of organizing a varied range of technical and co-curricular activities, CE Society of India, student’s branch, NIT had organized a workshop on Terminate & Stay Resident Programs, which had been conducted by Mr. Nimesh Patel. TSR mainly works on low level machine language. TSR harnesses IVR, ISR and Bias functions.

 

      Event Name: D-CLUB (Discussion & Debate Club)

      Date: 16/01/2006 and 03/02/2006,

Description: D-Club (Discussion & Debate Club) functioning under CSI, on the above mentioned day and date, had conducted the following activities.

 

v    Introduction to D-Club (Goals & Objectives)

Conducted an intercollegiate event ROBOWARS jointly organized by CSI along with ROBOTECH. It was based on the concept of warring robots.

  • Vasoc-da-game event was basically a treasure hunt.
  • Virtu-o-setu was a BRIDGE-BUILDING software based event.
  • Otpyrc was a programming based event where in  the  students have been given an encrypted program.
  • Aventura was a technical AUDIO-VISUAL quiz.

    Description: CSI provided entertainment to students by LAN game-“Counter strike”,

A sheer reflection of speed and teamwork. The gaming experience has given participants ultimate thrill of being together and work as a team.

Description : The response to the event was overwhelming, with 50 participants from students of 3rd and 5th Semester of B.Tech

 

Event Name : Seminar on ‘Open Source Computing’

Date :  14th September 2007

Description : Participation:  The response to the event was overwhelming, with 80   participants from students of 1st, 3rd and 5th Semester of B.Tech

 

Event Name : ‘Page 1.0’

                  Date : 18th  September 2007

Description : The response to the event was overwhelming, with 18 teams having 33   participants from students of 3rd and 5th Semester of B.Tech

 

ACES (Association of CE students)

 

Event Name: Chak De

Date :  3rd October 2007

Description: It was a sports quiz consisting of 4 rounds and 4 teams were short-listed. The first and second winners were awarded.

 

Event Name: Kaun ?

Date :  3rd October 2007

            Description: This event was based upon the concept of 20 questions where the participants had to guess the personality within 20 questions. There were 4 teams short-listed and the first and second winners were awarded.

 

Event Name : Lan Gaming       

Date :  3rd October 2007

            Description : The LAN gaming event included road rash and the first and second   winners were awarded.

 

COLOSSEUM’08

 

This event was organized by 4 student associations- CSI, Student Branch, NIT, Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES), Association of IT Students (INFOCRATS) & Association of MCA Students (AMS).

 

The inauguration ceremenoy of Colosseum ’08 was presided by Dr.A.R.Dasgupta, the distinguished scientist from BISAG, Mr.Nikhil Jain, the CEO of Elite Core Technologies Ltd. and Col.Vishwas Deoskar, Talent Acquisition Head from West zone for Satyam Computer Services. Also to grace the occasion, Prof. A.B.Patel, Director, Institute of Technology, Nirma University and Dr.S.N.Pradhan, Co-ordinator of M.Tech Program, Nirma University were present there.

Event Name      : TETRATHLON ‘08

Event Date       : 5th April, 2008

Description    : The event tested the logical as well as technical aspects of participants and won a huge response of 100 Participants. It contained total of 4 events as the tradition with about 100 participants in the form of 25 teams.

 

Event Name      : Foundation Day Events

Event Date       : 3rd October, 2008

 

1.  Synopsis----The jack of all Trades:

This event was a total of many events. This was a single event examining all the fields of one’s personality. The event consisted of many tasks which the participants had to accomplish in a certain amount of time. These tasks evaluated the allover skills of the participants on the campus. The team which completed the most number of tasks in the given time period was the winner. This event continued for 4 hrs.

 

2. Vantage X---- Get going before the WALL STREET crumbles:            

This event had to do with the aptitude and financial skills of the participants. The participants were given a questionnaire having aptitude testing questions. They had to answer them and based on these answers they were given some amount of virtual money which they had to invest in Virtual Share Market. The technical committee had specially developed a software for such a virtual share market. The share trading was performed online on this software in the event and thus the complete atmosphere of a share market was achieved.

 

3. Twister----- The twist in the quiz:

This event, as the name suggests, had a total twist in the general quizzes and so one can call it a remixed quiz! This quiz was conducted in an auditorium and three rounds consisting of questions related to movies, sports as well as academics. Such a quiz will revive the other part of a quizzer. It is being organized since last 5 years and still continued as a remixed tradition.

 
ACES  (Association of CE students)
 
ACES  has organized following three events on foundation day 3rd October 08.
 

     Event Name: CHAK DE

     An event organized to judge the knowledge in sports of the students of Institute of technology. It was a quiz based exclusively on sports. It had series of eliminations to finally have the quiz round in final involving five teams competing on the foundation day.ndation day.

 

  Event Name: LAN GAMING:

It had events like counterstrike and flash games. The theme was “LAST MAN STANDING”. One-on-one, direct elimination was executed to check the winner at the top of the elimination pyramid.

 

Event Name: KAUN:

A general knowledge quiz competition organized by the ACES. It had everything on which students’ knowledge can be tested against. Questions from Politics, education, sciences, sports, philosophy were put together and five team were selected to compete on the foundation day.

Event Name: “Computer Literacy Program “


Organized By: INFOCRATS,  CSI, and ACES

Date of Event: 14th, 21st and 28th March, 2009

Participants:  children from following schools and NGOs took benefit of the program in the premises of the Institute of Technology under Nirma University.


            1)   Asarva Municipal School No.4, Ahmedabad.

2)   Aarzoo (A Non- Government Organization), Paldi, Ahmedabad.

 

Event Description:

The volunteers and members of the above mentioned clubs had actively participated in the various teaching sessions on following topics:

 

Day 1: History and Introduction to Computers, Peripheral Handling.

Day 2: Paintbrush, Notepad, Typing Tutor, games etc.

Day 3: Intorduction to Internet, Web Browsing, Search Engines, etc.

 

There were two batches of 35 Children each taught in the Computer Laboratories of the Institute.  These children along with their faculty were provided the Bus Transport Facility and Refreshments from the Institute itself. The children and the staff of the respective organization were so satisfied that they have already proposed us to continue this program as long as possible.
   
 

Event Name: Innovision ’09, A National Technical Festival

Organised by: AMS, ACES, INFOCRATS, and CSI

Date: 30th & 31st January, 2009

Faculty Co-ordinators: Prof. Madhuri Bhavsar, Prof Tejal Upadhyay, Prof. Swati Jain, Mr. Rushabh Shah

Chief Guest: Shri. Nikhil Jain, ( Director and COO ) Elitecore Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

Guest of Honor: Shri. Raj K. Jha (Head of ILP center)  TCS.

Total Participation : More than 350 students from various universities across the country.

 

Event Descriptions:

 

Brain Train

This event had 15 participants out of which only 3 teams made it to the finals. This represents how tough the event was. It was a highly technical in nature with logic of the teams being the primary performance criteria for their solutions of the problems given which had algorithms such as Google’s Map Reduce, RSA & N Queen Problem among others.

 

Live Wire

This was a general knowledge quiz with a difference and was the first of its kind in the university. It had an online round and the finalists then battled it out on the final day. The style of quizzing was distinctly different than the normal quizzes in that the participants’ wit and on the feet thinking was also tested along with their general knowledge. It had a participation of 50 students.

 

On the Job

This was also a first of its kind event in Nirma University. It aimed at developing the managerial skills. The participants were made to pass the various stages in a campus recruiting process with an aptitude test, GD and PI. Then the individuals were randomly teamed up. The final round consisted of a presentation of a solution to a given on the spot business scenario problem.

 

Alias

This event was also a first of its kind in the university. Here, the hardware knowledge of the participants was tested. The event was conducted in 2 phases. They were shown various hardware parts which they had to identify. In the final round, they had to assemble a working PC Cabinet in the shortest possible time. It had a participation of 70 enthusiastic students.

 

Junkwarez

It was a coding competition in which certain bits of code or “snippets” of code were already given to the participants and then they had to solve the given set of problems using those snippets. Around 100 students had taken part in this event.

 

Dynamoze

Robotics has always been a popular event in any tech fest. This event had an obstacle course for the robots to overcome. But the obstacles were dynamic i.e. moving and this increased the complexity of the track. It had a participation of 50 students. It was a team event.

 

Football Fantasia

This event was a robo soccer in which 2 robots form each team played soccer against each other. One robo of each team acted as the attacker and the other played the role of goal keeper. It also had a participation of 50 students. The robotic events attracted the maximum crowd.

 

Workshop

Innovision 09 had a 2 day workshop. The first day focussed on the open source technologies and their marketing potential. On the second day it had a practical learning approach on Java programming.

 

Paper Presentation

This was a standard paper presentation competition with topics from the fields of Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Instrumentation & Control Engineering. It had a participation of 90 students.

 

Software & Hardware Project Presentation

It was a standard software and Hardware project presentation competition. It had a participation of 50 students.

 

LAN Gaming

To lighten up the atmosphere we had a LAN Gaming competition which had an overwhelming response of 170 participants. The games that were offered were Counter Strike & FIFA 08.

 

Verbel Duel

This was a typical debate competition which consisted of three rounds. 8 students were selected in the elimination round who were paired randomly in teams of 2. The participants were equally competent which made it very difficult for the judges to short list the teams for the final round.

Event Name: COLOSSEUM ’10 (16th-17th Feb, 2010)

This event was organized by 4 student associations- CSI, Student Branch,IT,NU Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES), Association of IT Students (INFOCRATS) & Association of MCA Students (AMS).

The aim of Colosseum ’10 was to facilitate inter-disciplinary collaboration and provide a platform for students from all over the country to participate and perform on benchmarks of national and international standards.

Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Col. P M V Nambiar, GM TCS-Gandhinagar. 500 participants invited from various colleges nation wide.

 

Following events were conducted in the 2 day technical festival:

A robot was captivated inside a prison. It had to escape the hurdles and escape.

b.    Robo-Wars

In this event, opposing teams of robots competed against one other to put as many bombs on the opponents side.

·     Business-Plan [10 Teams, 8 selected]

·     Google Hunt [40 participants]

·     Virtual Stock Market [100 participants played online, 40 selected]

·     Online Quiz [50 participants played online , 6 teams selected]

·    Hardware Identification [150 participants gave eliminations, 20 selected]

·     On the Job [250 participants gave eliminations, 30 selected in GD& PI,          5   teams presented final case study]

·     Coding Event [150 participants gave eliminations, 20 selected]

·     Chain Event [8 Teams competed]

·     Fotografia [15 participants submitted]
