Research through PG thesis and PhD work is aimed at developing student capability in this regard. Department also offers current industrial topics for M. Tech. research work.
Departments has established the Links with Industry, R & D and Government Organizations

Nirma University has signed MOU with the Government of Gujarat for the establishment of “Nanotechnology Center” of worth Rs. 20 Carore under the coordinator-ship of Chemical Engineering department.

A research project on “Generation of Fuel from Plastic Waste” has been carried out at department funded by Institution of Engineers.

At the Department due importance and emphasis is given to the application of theory to the practice. As part of this, institute has signed MOU with the Gujarat Chemical Association (GCA), Vatva Naroda Enviro Projects Ltd. (NEPL), Naroda and The Green Environment Services Co-operative Services Limited (GESCSL), Vatva, Ahmedabad. Industrial training, visits and invited lectures are regular features of the department. Frequent meetings and interactions with leading academicians from other universities and industries are organized for the development and updation of Chemical Engineering curriculum at the Department and also the Chemical Engineering branches across the state. Experts from industries and academia are invited for delivering lecture on topics of expertise, curriculum development and improvement in teaching-learning process.

Under the MOU with GESCSL, the Department had carried out the “Green Industry Institute Partnership Project”. The output of this project claimed improvement in performance of the equipments / process / operations and saving of considerable amount to the industry by putting valuable suggestions. Few projects undertaken are as follows:

Utilization of Solid waste landfill site exercise was taken up at The Green Enviro Services Co-operative Society Limited, Vatva, Ahmedabad. Life cycle of the landfill site was calculated, also the area occupied earlier and the remaining area utilization was calculated. Based on calculations and suggestions industry claims noteworthy saving.

The Alps Chemicals, Vatva, Ahmedabad, were required to maintain the SOX and SPM percentages, as per the norms of Gujarat Pollution Control Board, in the flue gases coming out of the boiler. The problem was to resolve that how to reduce or to design a stable system for their control. The project was taken up by Prof. A. P. Vyas and Mr. P. D. Shah. The suggestions were accepted by the industry.

Department faculty members are regularly publishing and presenting research papers in International referred Journals and International Conferences respectively based on their research work. More than thirty five (35) papers have been published in International referred Journals by the faculty members of the Department, that is in addition to the more than forty (40) papers presented under various International Conferences.
