Nirma Education and Research Foundation initiated a discussion amongst a group of leading industrialist, successful professionals and renowned academicians from the technical education by calling a series of meetings.  On the recommendations of these experts, it was decided to start Nirma Institute of Diploma Studies.  The dream came true on 14th September in 1997.  This is the first self – financed diploma institute in the State of Gujarat and has an approval of the All India Council of Technical Education (New Delhi) and recognized by Government of Gujarat.  It is now a constituent of Nirma University.

From the year 1997, the year of inception, three programmes namely Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Plastic Engineering were started with an intake of 60 in each programme.  Institute started offering Diploma in Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics & Communication Engineering in year 2001.  Diploma in Electrical Engineering was started in the year 2003. 

Presently, Institute offers seven diploma programme with total intake of 420.
