Library Council

Library council had been constituted for the purpose of smooth functioning and coordination amongst all institute libraries, faculty members, students and the management. The library council has below mentioned members:

Two Heads of Department/ Academic Area from each Institute, to be nominated by respective Head of the Institute. ln case where the department/Academic Area  is  not  formed,  one senior faculty from institute concerned to be nominate by the Head of the Institute

       Members

One senior student   representative from each   Post   Graduate programme (or from Under Graduate programme where there is no Post Graduate programme at present), to be nominated by Head of the Institute concerned

The functions of the Library Council shall be as under:

  • To fortunate knowledge and information archiving and management policy at the University,

  • To promote library and info1mation literacy in the University,

  • To recommend and approve library vision, strategy document,

  • To recommend and approve library activities, programmes, services, etc,

  • To formulate various policies related to library like University Library System, collection, development policy, purchase policy, staffing, building and space requirement, etc.,

  • To recommend and approve the library budget for the University, Institute and Departments/Academic Areas.

Procedure of the Library Council and Library Committee:

a.      The term of members other than ex-officio, shall be for three years from the date of nominationexcept for the students' representative. The term of students'  representative shall be one academic year,


b.      The Library Council a,nd Library Committee shall meet at least once in an academic semester or term (as the case may be)/ first half of the academic year, and at other times, when conver1ed by the Chairman of the respective Council  orCommittee,

 

c.       Halfthe members of the Library Council and LibraryCommittee shall constitute the Quorum for the transaction of business. In caseof a meeting adjourned for want of quorum, the presence of four members shall be necessary for subsequent meeting,

 

d.       Theminutes of the meeting shall be circulated by the Member Secretary of LibraryCouncil and Library Committee, respectively; after approval of the respectiveChairman, to the members ordinarily within a reasonabletime from the date of the meeting.
