Formation of NERF and the Journey Ahead

“If we value  the search of knowledge, we must be free to chase wherever that search may lead us.” – Dr Karsanbhai K Patel

Dr Karsanbhai K. Patel took up the challenge of encouraging private participation in the field of Higher Education in the professional field and established Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF)  in 1994 as a trust. To start with, in 1995, it established Nirma Institute of Technology catering to the needs of imparting quality education at undergraduate level in engineering and technology.

Thereafter, in 1996, the Institute of Management was established with a view to promote excellence in management education and to prepare young men & women to meet the challenges of the developing corporate world. In 1997, the Institute of Diploma was established to offer multidisciplinary diploma programmes in Engineering.

As a natural consequence of the outstanding performance in their respective areas by the first three institutions, the Government of Gujarat, in 2003, approved the proposal of NERF to grant the status of a University under a special act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly. The University Grants Commission (UGC) recognized it under the section 2 (f) of the UGC Act.

Subsequently the University established five more institutes and one department, the Institute of Pharmacy in 2003, the Institute of Science in 2004, the Institute of Law in 2007, the Institute of Architecture and Planning in 2014, Institute of Commerce in 2016 and the Department of Design 2017.
