Certificate for Charter of Nirma University Student Branch and authorised student branch of The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) sponsored by Western India Chapter (WIC) was handed over to Mrs Alka Mahajan, Director, IT, NU by Mr D N Shukla,Former President, ASHRAE WIC. 

 

Mr Aakash Patel, President, ASHRAE WIC;Mr Vijay Panchal, Secretary, ASHRAE WIC; Mr D M Shah, Senior ASHRAE Member, Dr V J Lakhera, HOD (Mech. Engg.); Dr R N Patel (Section Head, Thermal Engineering); Prof B A Shah (Student Branch Advisor (SBA), Nirma ASHRAE WIC) were present during the programme scheduled on 27/2/2018 (Tuesday). 

 

Mr Aakash Patel, President, ASHRAE WIC have briefly talked about ASHRAE activities like REFCON Conference; Industrial Visit to Johson Control Hitachi, GIFT City;Quizo-2018 and formerly announce ASHRAE Under Graduate Grant of amount $3350 received by Prof. B A Shah, SBA,  Nirma ASHRAE WIC for carrying out project title “Development of Split AC Test Rig Working on Inverter technology and charged with Environment Friendly Refrigerant R-32  – as a Laboratory Equipment for Engineering Students”.

 

Mr Aakash Patel, President, ASHRAE WIC administered the oath to the ASHRAE student members namely Tanuj Sailor as a president, Dinesh Sharma as a vice president, Mr Munigyana Patel as a secretary and Mr Vatsal Parmar as a treasurer of Nirma Univeristy student chapter ASHRAE WIC.

UltraTech Cement Ltd. has organized an "UltraTech Sparkling Star" competition for undergraduate and postgraduate Students for civil engineering branch.The event has 2 Rounds of competition; Preliminary and Final. The preliminary round was organized on 22nd and 23rd January 2018 at L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad and final round was scheduled on 10th February 2018. Top 39 teams were selected for the first round. Out of 39 teams, 8 teams were entered into the final round.  From Civil engineering department, two teams were selected for the final round. In the final round team of Amay Gupta, Reet Chanduka and Dipankar Nigam has secured 2nd Place and become “Ultra Tech Sparkling Star” with Rs. 12,000/- Prize. From Civil engineering department, Prof. Tejas Joshi has coordinated the said competition.

Congratulations to team CON-SOL-E 2.0, of IC department, IT,NU who won silver cup in the prestigious national level project competition Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2018. Team has developed IoT based sorter machine for quality control in manufacturing industries..

An Extension activity was conducted by students of 4th semester, IC department, IT, NU. In this activity a group of students went to Tragad primary school on every Saturday (For four consecutive Saturday). Teaching sessions were started from date 17/02/18. The volunteers went to TRAGAD Govt. School and made the students do fun activities that help them learn. This was a wonderful experience for the volunteers and the students at the school.

ISTE Faculty Chapter, Institute of Technology, Nirma University Ahmedabad had organized a Public Lecture “The Invisible Universe” by Dr Jen Gupta, the University of Portsmouth in the UK on 15/2/2018, 3.00 - 4.00 pm at NIM-Audi, Nirma University Campus, Ahmedabad. Dr Jen Gupta is an astrophysicist, science communicator and podcaster who is passionate about sharing her love of astronomy and science. She is the SEPnet/Ogden Public Engagement and Outreach Manager for the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth in the UK. In this talk, she had shown the Universe at other wavelengths, from familiar objects like our Sun to weird and wonderful distant quasars, and explained some of the physics behind them. Along the way she touched on the stories of some of the pioneers in these areas of astronomy and astrophysics, who dedicated their careers to furthering our understanding of the invisible Universe. More than 500 students attended this lecture and actively took part in question-answer session also.

On 3rd Feb 2018, NSS unit of ITNU together with YOU-NEED, a student based organisation in Nirma University working for the welfare of society and reaching to the people in need, organised the event “SPECIAL OLYMPICS” wherein 72 special kids with intellectual disabilities along with 8 officials were invited to Nirma University to promote the value of games and sports and make them realise the importance of being independent. It ran from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Cricket Ground. The event was conducted with the help of the organisation “The Special Olympics Bharat-Gujarat” which provides year-round sports training in Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Sports activities of Bocche and Softball were organised and the kids took part in the acitivity with the volunteers to promote their spirit of sportsmanship.  People cheered and encouraged them heartily.  Children enjoyed a lot showing no hesitation. The team of 80 volunteers ensured that the kids enjoy each and every moment and gave them some memories that they will never forget.

Prof. P. N. Kapil, Assistant Professor, EE, Institute of Technology, Nirma University was awarded with the "Dronacharya Award" during the recently concluded BAJA SAE India 2018 Competition organized by SAE (Society for Automotive Engineers) at NATRIP, NATRAX Facility, Pithampur (Nr. Indore), Madhya Pradesh, India between 25th to 28th January 2018. The competition was a national level All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) designing, manufacturing, testing and racing competition which is organized annually. Prof. P. N. Kapil was awarded as the best faculty mentor to student team in the e-BAJA (Electric Vehicle) category.
