A two days Training Programme on "Engineering for Non Engineers/ Plant Personnel" was Conducted at Excel Crop Care Limited, Bhavnagar during 22nd and 23rd Decdember 2014. The faculty member who were involved in deliering the lecturs during training programme were, Dr S S Patel, Dr J P Ruparelia, Dr R K Mewada, Dr M H Joshipura and Dr P D Shah. The programme was attended by more than 30 plant personnel.

A two days faculty development program was organized under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University on December 15-16, 2014 and conducted by Prof. Sachin Gajjar, Assistant Professor and Dr. D. K. Kothari, Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering Programme, Electrical Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University. The program was intended for faculty of Technical Institutes teaching or doing research in the areas of Embedded Systems and Engineers from industry who want to explore boards for maker community like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, MSP430 controllers, Intel Galileo etc. It was also open for research scholars at PhD and PG level interested in hardware and software design of embedded systems.

Julie M Pardiwala was awarded with “Young Scientist Oral Award for Oral presentation” at 4th International Science Congress (ISC-2014, 8th   and 9th December, 2014), Organized by International Science Congress Association, Pacific University, Udaipur, Rajasthan for the research paper “Comparison of two different photocatalyst: Spinel and Pervoskite prepared by sol-gel and coprecipitation methods for degradation of RB5 dye” co-authored by Dr Sanjay Patel and Dr F J Patel. More than 1000 participants presented their work in the conference.

Prof. Dr. P. N. Tekwani, Professor and HoD – Electrical Engineering, IT, NU, received the “ISTE-CVM Award for the Best Engineering College Teacher in Gujarat State”. The award was presented to him during the Inaugural Function of the 44th Annual National Convention of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi on 27th November 2014. The convention was organized and hosted by College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala during 27-29 November, 2014.

M.Tech. Thesis entitled "Design and Simulation of Cryogenic Columns in  Air Separations Unit" of Ms. Priya Balasubramaniam,  guided by Dr. M H Joshipura received the ISTE-IPCL National Award for Best M.Tech. Thesis in Chemical Engineering-2014 (First Prize). The award for the guide include a certificate and a medalian and for the student it carried a certificate, medalian and Rs. 10000 Cash.

Dr. Sharad Purohit (PI) and Dr. Paresh Patel (Co-PI) from the Department of Civil Engineering, IT-NU have earned an ISRO-RESPOND project titled "Development of Passive Damping Surface Coating for Advanced Materials based Structural System using PZT (Peizo) Powder" for the funding of Rs. 8.09 Lacs. The Duration of the project is 1.5 years.  

The focal persons from ISRO are Dr. B. S. Munjal & Shri Ankur Achanani (SAC-ISRO, Ahmedabad).

Julie M Pardiwala was awarded with best oral paper presentation at International Conference on Chemical Industry organised by Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University & Gujarat Chemical Association, 22nd -23rd August, 2014 for the paper “Degradation of Reactive Black (RB5)” co-authored by Dr Sanjay Patel and Dr F J Patel.

IEEE membership grade of Prof. Dr. P. N. Tekwani has been elevated from Member to Senior Member Grade.

His application was considered in the Admission and Advancement (A&A) Review Panel Meeting held at Minneapolis, MN, USA (R4) on 12th July, 2014.

It is a matter of accolade for us that the ROBOCON Team of the Institute of Technology, Nirma University has won the Championship Trophy in the National level ROBOCON-2014 Competition held in Pune, organized by Doordarshan - MIT AOE.
 
There were a total of 89 teams in the ROBOCON 2014 competition.  Our team has bagged this trophy leaving all the teams behind.  In the finals, our team won against Veermata Jijabhai Technological Institute, Mumbai. The Institute of Technology has won this Championship Award for the 6th time so far.

ROBOCON is an international competition organized by Asia pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) , a collection of over 50 countries of Asia Pacific region.

The broadcasters of each participant country are responsible for conducting their national contests to select the team which will represent their country in the international contest. Teams from Engineering and Technological colleges are eligible for participation. Participating teams are expected to design and fabricate their own robots and organize their teams including an Instructor, Team Leader, Manual Robot Operator and an Automatic Robot Operator.

A team of students from the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering participated in the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) SAE Baja competition at Pithampur, Indore during 19-22 February 2014. More than 100 teams across the country including IITs, NITs and all other reputed Universities participated in the competition. The BAJA SAE tasked the students to design, fabricate and validate a single seater four–wheeled off-road vehicle to take part in series of events that test the vehicle for the Sound Engineering practices that have gone into it, the agility of the vehicle in terms of gradability, speed, acceleration and maneuverability characteristics and finally its ability to endure that back breaking durability test. The Go Green theme was also the part of competition in-order to judge the innovation and effective ways to inhibit the pollutant emission from the vehicles.  
Our team STALLIONS has been participating for last three years and won following prizesin this event this year.

GO GREEN Award :1st prize worth INR 2,00,000.

Raftar Award for Acceleration and Hill Climb: INR 1,00,000.

Jay Baxi (10BEC105) participated in science slam competition organized by DAAD India, at Bangalore on February 25, 2014 and won the first prize of fully funded research trip to Germany.
