IC-IMPACTS Collaborative Research Project with University of Victoria, Canada

The department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University has been granted a collaborative research project titled “Application of Precast Products made using Bottom Ash and Fly Ash for Rural Pavements and other Infrastructure in India” by IC-IMPACTS (the India-Canada Centre for Innovative Multidisciplinary Partnerships to Accelerate Community Transformation and Sustainability).

The project is of three year duration from July 01, 2015 to March 31, 2018. The total fund sanctioned for the project is 84500 Canadian Dollars. The project is expected to lead to applications of Geopolymer concrete, especially in the precast industry. It is envisaged that the concrete mixes developed in this project will have the adequate compressive strength, and other durability properties required for the concrete mixes to be used as a paving material in rural India and as a permeable paving material in urban Canadian environment. The potential of the developed concrete mixes for using in other infrastructure in both countries will also be explored in the project.

Dr. Urmil V Dave, Professor, Civil Engineering Department will work as the Indian principal investigator of the project. Canadian principal Investigator of the project is Dr. Rishi Gupta, University of Victoria, Canada. Industry partners from Canada and India are also associated in the project.
