The Dept. of Electrical Engineering is enriched with well - developed laboratories, having variety of equipment useful for novice to understand concepts, and to high end equipment for different applications for learned ones. The department emphasizes on hardware and software skills of an individual and accordingly lab development is shaped. The equipment and software tools are as per the industry requirements and standards. The department has state-of-the art lab facilities in different areas and are listed as below:

 Laboratory Facilities

·       Electrical Machines & Drives Laboratory

The laboratory is equipped with basic and advanced electrical machines. In addition to this, laboratory has capacity to test induction motors up to 10 HP according to IS: 325.

Major Equipment: Eddy current drive for motor testing, Constant V/f control induction motor drives upto 5 hp rating, Rectifier Transformer Set, AC/DC servomotor, Energy efficient induction motor, Demonstration model of sensorless vector control AC drive, DC machines upto 5 hp, Model of PM machine, Permanent magnet motor, 1 – phase and 3 – phase transformers, Automatic winding machine, Switched reluctance motor,Wind Energy Trainer with Hybrid Charge Controller, Fully automatic diagnostic insulation tester, 3 - phase power analyzer, Digital trivector meter.


·       High Voltage Engineering Laboratory

One of its kind in the state, amodern state-of-the-art laboratory is designed to provide platform for basicstudies and to give boost to research in Insulation studies. It offers testingfacilities for the power apparatus upto 11 kV and insulators up to 33 kV. Thislaboratory helps students to understand the various aspects of insulation andphenomenon like lightning and surges in electrical power system.

Major Equipment: 100 kVAC and DC test set, 300 kV, 3 kJ, 3 stage impulse generator, Motorized oiltesting unit, Artificial Rain making equipment as per IS, Liquid dielectricconstant meter, 30 kV DC/40 kV AC test set, Demo set for understanding behaviorof impurities in liquid, tesla coil model and transformer prototype model forSFRA.


·       Switchgear and Protection Laboratory

An ultra-modern protection laboratoryequipped with all types of relays including numerical relays (make: GEC,ABB and Easun Reyrolle) for transformer, and motor protection has beendeveloped. This laboratory is useful to the students of final year ElectricalEngineering and M.Tech (Electrical Power Systems) in getting the upto dateknowledge of the working of the various types of relays by actual demonstrationon in-house designed panels.

Major Equipment: Numericalprotection relay, Transformer protection relay, Over-current relay,Differential relay, Over-voltage Relay, Distance protection relay, Motorprotection relay, Relay control system trainer, Over-current relay testset (Type CFB MK II). With reference to renewable energy generation, thelab now includes the Wind Energy Generation Training and research kit with localwind emulation.


·       Power Electronics Laboratory

To enable students to understand theoperation of semiconductor devices and power electronics converters, thelaboratory is equipped with the experimental set-ups and students are exposedto hands on design experiments. The laboratory also enables students to carryout projects very effectively. The laboratory caters the need of experimentsfor UG and PG programmes.

Major Equipment : Experimental setups for power electronics Applications like OPAL – RT (and RT – LAB), dSPACE- ACE 1104, inverters, IGBT & MOSFET, A.C. voltage controllers, Stepper motor drive, AC and DC drives, Chopper trainer, Single phase dual converter, Gate/Base triggering circuit trainer, Multi-pulse converter, Tuned harmonic filter, Digital Storage Scopes – 60 MHz and 200 MHz with high voltage differential probe, AC to DC regulated dual power supplies, Solar photovoltaic training and research kit, Universal Programmer, DSP trainer kits, 32 bit ARM cortex Micro-controller kit, function generators, Power and harmonic analyzer.

Computer Facilities

To offer latest computing facilities, the department has latest computer terminals in various labs. Some of the terminals are having interfacing with hardware circuitry. The department has about 76 computer terminals whereas other 42 computers are shared among EE/ EC / IC.
