Karan Shah, Stuti Garg and Keshavkant Sharm from EC department participated in Project Expo 2019, organized at Surat, supported by NITI Aayog, Government of India, and InnovSeed Incubation Centre. The team had developed a 2 Quadcopter swarm intelligence prototype, and stood as the 3rd Runner among total of 300 teams all over Gujarat participated.

Dr N.M.Devashrayee, Professor EC Department along with Dr Mamta Saiyad have given a research idea on Polymer Self Heal Nuclear Coat which can absorb radiation, prevent failure and selfheal on the failure of shielding outfits under radiation environment in space. This idea is accepted for presentation at NASA Langley Research Center.

IQAC, School of Technology conducted seminar on “Examination Reforms” for the faculty members of School of Technology, IT, NU.  Electronics & Communication Engineering and Instrumentation & Control Engineering Departments jointly organized one-day seminar on March 2, 2019 in which 32 faculty members participated. Two experts – (1) Dr. M.B.Patil, IIT, Mumbai and (2) Dr. Mukul Chandorkar, IIT, Mumbai were invited for giving guidance for setting the questions in written examination, assignment and quiz to evaluate the attainment of course outcome.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Institute of Technology, Nirma University has invited Dr. Jorge Teniente-Vallinas from the Public University of Navarra, Spain to deliver a short course on, “Antennas, Terrestrial and Satellite Radio Wave Communications” during March 4-8, 2019. The course duration was of 18 hours. The course was attended the students of B.Tech.-EC (Semester - VI), M.Tech.-EC (Communication Engineering: Semester - II), and a few doctoral students. In the short course, Dr. Jorge Teniente-Vallinas covered three main modules including (i) Basic Parameters of Antennas, (ii) Terrestrial Radio Links and (iii) Satellite Communication Systems.

Internet of Things and Fog Computing

August 28-29, 2018



A Two Day Workshop on “Internet of Things and Fog Computing” was organized by Electronics and Communication Engineering Department under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University during August 28-29, 2018. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. N.P Gajjar, Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department and Dr. Sachin Gajjar, Associate Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, of Institute of Technology, Nirma University.


The workshop was intended for faculty members from Engineering Institutes, Industry personnel and PG/PhD students working and/or doing research in the area of Internet of Things and Fog Computing.


The lectures and hands on sessions were conducted on topics such as “Internet of Things: Introduction, Applications, Architecture and Challenges”; “Hardware design of Internet of Things using Single Board Computers”; “Machine Learning for Internet of Things” and “Case Studies on Environmental Monitoring and Smart City Applications using IoT” were covered during the workshop. Hands-on sessions on hardware design for IoT using single board computers were also conducted. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Sachin Gajjar, Dr. Nagendra Gajjar from Nirma University and Mr. Madhukant Patel from Reve Automation and Mr. Sohil Patel from Oizom Technologies.


The program was attended by 36 participants from Nirma University and Gandhinagar Institute of Technology. The participants were faculty members and PG students from Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering streams.

Details : Agriculture is the most important occupation for most of the Indian families. In India, agriculture contributes about sixteen percent (16%) of total GDP and ten percent (10%) of total exports. Over 60 % of India’s land area is arable making it the second largest country in terms of total arable land. Agricultural products of significant economic value includes rice, wheat, potato, tomato, onion, mangoes, sugar-cane, beans, cotton, etc.

Economic Growth: Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. Though, with the growth of other  sectors, the overall share of agriculture on GDP of the country has decreased. Still, Agriculture  continues to play a dominant part in the overall economic scenario of India.

Conducting frequent and accurate soil tests helps in the long run because the information provided helps to protect and maintain our farms and other large investments. When combined with routine fertilizer applications, soil tests ensure peak performance for the short term and help maintain the land for the long term.

With as much as 60 percent of yield dependent on soil fertility, the best growing seasons are built from the ground up. Regardless of how much is spent on other crop inputs, if you haven’t taken care of the base —soil fertility — it’s difficult to maximize yield.

We at FERMETESTER provide Hardware as a Service (HaaS) based model of frequent soil testing and its analysis based on the result. We provide reports to farmers based on frequent analysis so that they can prevent and stand against crop failures which in turn decreases suicide rates of farmers.

A lecture and demonstration about IRNSS Satelite receiver was conducted today from 10 am to 12 noon by shri Atul Sukla, Group Head, DCTG/SNAA and Shri Nishkam Jain, Sci/Engr - SE, SNTD/DCTG group. Shri Shukla has discussed the possibilities of research and projects that can be explored based on the receivers we have and Mr Jain has given in depth demonstration explaining exploration of various data. Session was attended by faculty from EC and Civil Engineering Department, Ph.D research scholars and M.Tech students of ECC program.

The session was conducted by Dr. Manisha Upadhyay, Associate Professor in EC department. Dr. Manisha Updhayay briefed up on the basics of GPS, GAGAN and IRNSS and demonstrated the data capturing process along with the various parameters associated with the receiver.
