Generally Digital Images/videos requires storage space. Those are transmitted in the network every now and then. So if the way can be provided by which such images require less memore on storage device and less bandwidth on transmission medium, then utilization of such resources can be done. Image compression achieves the same by exploiting various kinds of redundancy in images/videos for providing compression.
