As part of continuous development process offered by Institute, faculty and Ph. D. students of Institute of Science participated in two days workshop on "Bioinformatics Course" during 1-2nd December, 2014 conducted by IBioA. The faculty and Ph.D. students of the Institute availed the information on the most advanced techniques in the field of molecular biology as handy tools for research in Life Sciences. This workshop helped in developing insight and new ideas in field and exploration of technique for upgrading the current knowledge.

The Institute of Science, Nirma University celebrated its Foundation Day on September 06, 2014.  Dr. Anup K. Singh, Hon’ble Director General, Nirma University, presided over the meeting and delivered the presidential address.  Prof. Sarat Dalai, Director, Institute of Science, delivered the welcome address. Dr. K.V. S. Rao from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (IGCEB), New Delhi was invited as the chief guest.  He delivered a lecture on “The comparative Interplay between Host and Pathogen in TB infection”.  The other invited distinguished guest, Dr. Akanksha Chaturvedi, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, spoke on “Integrating the B cell receptor & Toll like Receptor Signalling”.  As a part of the Women Development cell, ISNU she gave a special talk on ‘Women & Science’ emphasizing the contribution of women scientist in various field of science. It was followed by ‘Tree Planting’ activity at Institute of Science.  Scientific posters prepared by the students of the Institute were also displayed. Felicitations were given to Research Scholar, Faculty and Staff for their contribution to development of Institute. The day concluded with a cultural programme by students of Institute of Science.

Institute of Science, Nirma University received three Major Research Project Grants funded by Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), Gandhinagar in the year 2014. They were proposed by Dr. Shalini Rajkumar, Dr. Sonal Bakshi and Dr. Mili Das as Principal Investigators.

Institute of Science, Nirma University, in coordination with Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, successfully organized two days programme on “Continuing Medical Education in Immunology”, under the aegis of Indian Immunology society on August 8-9, 2014. Prof. Sarat Dalai, Dean faculty of Science, Nirma University was the convener and Dr. Heena Dave, Assistant Professor, ISNU was the coordinator of the programme. CME:Immunology assembled two hundred postgraduate students, Ph.D. students and faculty members from various educational institutions, medical professionals and medical students and young researchers and professionals from industries of matching interests under one roof to promote Immunology research. Thirteen nationally eminent and internationality recognized Immunologists shared their valuable experience, expertise and knowledge of Immunology research and motivated students to explore the branch of Immunology as an upcoming research field. The deliberations during the programme were fruitful and students were benefited through interactions with the speakers.

Institute of Science, Nirma University and Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, jointly organized a one day lecture series on “Current Trends In Molecular Biology”, sponsored by the Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), on March 8, 2014. The event was coordinated by Prof. Sarat Dalai, (I/c) Director, INSU and co-coordinated by Dr. Mili Das and Dr. Heena Dave, Assistant Professors, ISNU. The invited speakers were Dr. Dipankar Chatterji, Chairman of Molecular Biophysics Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Prof. C.G Joshi, Department of Animal Biotechnology, Anand Agricultural University; Dr. Akhil C. Banerjea, Staff Scientist VII, Laboratory of Virology, NII, New Delhi, Prof. G. Nareshkukar, Department of Biochemistry, M.S. University, Baroda; Prof. Sarita Gupta, Head, Department of Biochemistry, MSU Baroda and Prof. R. B. Subramanian, B.R.D School of Biosciences, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidhyanagar. This event bestowed students with an opportunity to amalgamate with such great researchers motivating them to work hard and excel in their area of research.
