Call for Papers: NICOM 2020 : 23rd Nirma International Conference on Management

 “Marketing Landscape: Change in the Making” [January 16 – 18, 2020]

We are happy to announce that the Institute of Management, Nirma University is organising 23rd NICOM during January 16 - 18, 2020 at Nirma University Campus, Ahmedabad. The theme of the conference is “Marketing Landscape: Change in the Making”. The conference aims to promote research and theory building by facilitating exchange of knowledge, ideas, strategies, and information from scholars, researchers, academicians and students, executives from industries and organisations from within India and abroad thereby furthering the scientific foundations of the marketing discipline. The conference also includes sessions by a host of expert academicians and practitioners.

We cordially invite you to participate in the conference through your research papers/case studies. The process starts with the abstract submission by September 14, 2019 and final paper submission by November 2, 2019. We will highly appreciate if you also encourage research scholars under your guidance to participate in this conference and also communicate/forward this message to your colleagues who might be interested to participate in this conference.

Executive Diploma Award Ceremony
The Executive Diploma Award Ceremony of Eighteenth Batch (EDP 2017-18) was held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Institute of Management, Nirma University. Mr. Nagendra Sastry, Vice President – Decision Analytics at EXL Services was the chief guest on the occasion. The Dignitaries who attended the award ceremony function were Dr. M. Mallikarjun, Director, Institute of Management, Nirma University and Dr. Chetan Jhaveri, Chairperson of 2017-18 batch of Executive Diploma Programme in Management. In his address to the EDP participants, the chief guest, Mr. Nagendra Sastry emphasised upon the importance of the ‘Predictive Analytics’ in Decision Making Process as predictive analytics is increasingly being welcomed in many industries and from his rich and varied experience shared how to use the ‘Data Analytics Tools’ to add more insight and clarity into business decisions.
This year, the ‘Executive Diploma’ was awarded to 41 participants out of which 28 participants were felicitated with the specialization in Operations Management and 13 participants with specialization in Marketing Management.
The Institute of Management had started the Executive Diploma Programmes (EDP) in year 1999 to fulfil the needs of the working executives, managers and entrepreneurs. The Programme focuses on updating the participants on latest developments in the areas of management and preparing them to take higher responsibilities in their organizations. The Executive Diploma Programmes are offered with specializations in area of Finance, Marketing, International Business and Operations Management.

Utkrishta 2018, the Management Conclave of Institute of Management, Nirma University, was organized by four prominent clubs of IMNU namely: Niche - the Marketing Club, Imprintz - the HR Club, Optimus - the Operations Club and Finesse - the Finance Club of IMNU. The Conclave commenced at 9:30 AM on 9th August, 2018 with the theme, “Contemporary Business Management Practices: Opportunities and Challenges”. The industry is undergoing numerous changes and these changes don’t take place in silos. As prospective managers, it is important that the students are well versed with changes in the highly dynamic corporate environment. Thus, the conclave sought to acquaint students with the ever evolving cultures in the aforementioned domains.

The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Sameer Desai, Chief Strategy Officer, Brand Launch Centre & CEO, Seagull Branding & Advertising Services. He made us rethink what business brands are really in. He talked about three core questions in brand building: ‘What is the obvious truth that your brand is based on?’, ‘How many prosumers do you really need?’, ‘Does your brand have an idea that the prosumer will champion?’. He highlighted the role of word-of-mouth in advertising. Mr. Desai said, “Products have rationals, brands have emotions.” He also described how advertising has changed in the 21st century and how packaging, pricing, purchase experience, people policy and profit policy play an important role in contemporary advertising.
After the inaugural address, the enthusiastic students geared up for the second session. Mr. Narayanan K. S., Independent Advisor in the Food and Beverages Industry, then began the session on the tone set by Mr. Sameer Desai. He spoke on the theme of ‘Food Services: B2B Marketing’. He said that the challenge of de-commoditization consists of transforming the focus of an organization from the ‘Best product, Lowest Price’ to ‘Total Customer Solutions’.
Commencing the next session, Mr. K Aayush Mazumdar, CMO at MeraEvents spoke about the History, Present and Future of Marketing. He began by exploring the origins and definition of marketing.

The fourth session was addressed by Ms. Manisha Kelkar, Head Corporate HR, Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd. The theme of this session was ‘New Age Talent Management’. She made the session interactive by bringing up three cases posing open ended questions to the audience on what is changing for organisations.

After the Marketing sessions got over, Operations Area speakers’ sessions kicked in with the first speaker Mr. Manikandan Murugesan, Head India Supplier Quality & Zero Defects Program, Supply Chain, Civil Aerospace Operations, Rolls Royce India Pvt. Ltd. The theme for this session was ‘Path Breaking Practices to achieve Zero Defects’.
The second speaker for the Operations session was Mr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, National Head, Buying and Merchandising, Reliance Retail Limited. His session was based on ‘Retail Operations & Merchandising Innovation’.
The session by Mr. Singh was followed by Mr. Muralidhar Pundla, Director-Quality, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, who addressed the audience on ‘Quality Management - The Akshayapatra Way’.
The last speaker for the day was Mr. Anil Patel, Sanand Plant Head, Ford Motor Company. The theme for the session was ‘Operations and Production Management Issues’.  
The first address of Day 2 of the Management Conclave was delivered by Mr. Ritesh Chavan, Co-Founder of The Money Roller. He made the students understand the importance of proper research if one wants to be successful in the field of financial markets
Following the first address, the students geared up for the second session by Mr. Mitesh Desai, Vice President at Mizuho Bank. He began the session by explaining various products in the field of banking. While giving an overview of the banking products, he explained Trade Finance, Retail Banking & Banking Operations.
Commencing the next session, Mr. Hrishikesh Deshmukh, CFA & Alumnus of Institute of Management, Nirma University, spoke about ‘Impact of Disruptive Technologies like Blockchain and Automation on the Financial Sector’. He gave the example of Google Duplex to explain how new technologies have started transforming businesses across all sectors, and can potentially create new job opportunities. After this, Mr. Deshmukh moved on to explaining blockchain, and specifically Bitcoin. He explained all the aspects of it, starting from its origin, all the way up to its applications and career opportunities in the field.
The fourth session was addressed by Mr. Apoorva Vora, Founder & CEO at Finolutions Wealthcare LLP. The session was based on “Changing Dynamics of Private Wealth Management.”
The valedictory session of the Management Conclave was addressed by Mr. Pratik Modi, Senior Director (Head of Technology India), S&P Global. His session was based on ‘Artificial Intelligence & Robot Based Intelligence’.
