Inaugural Ceremony of its two week Orientation Programme

Institute of Law, Nirma University organized Inaugural Ceremony of its two week Orientation Programme  (12-27th July) for the New Batch of B.A. LL.B (Hons) and B.Com LL.B. (Hons) students. Prof. Dr. Purvi Pokhariyal, Director & Dean, Institute of Law, delivered the welcome address. She congratulated the students for securing admission at one of the finest law schools of the country. She appraised the audience that ILNU has added more flexibility, introduced many new electives, and initiated skill law courses. This year the institute is also starting ‘Lawyers Incubation Clinic’ to prepare students for litigation. She urged the students to show rigour, passion and openness for the study of law.

Prof. (Dr) R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor-National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, Guest of Honour,delivered the Keynote address. He asked the students to chase their dreams. He motivated students that they must have ‘Passion’ for what they do and‘compassion’ for whom they do it.He also asked students to collaborate as ‘Geniuses are never created in isolation’. The Chief Guest of the Program,Honourable Mr. Justice C K Thakkar, Judge (Retd) Supreme Court of India, in his ceremonial address talked about his journey as a student of law, Advocate and Supreme Court Judge. He discussed the lessons of his life he learnt in profession and urged the new batch of students to take keen interest in all subjects of law as well as social sciences as there is a high degree of relevance across disciplines. He also released brochure of ‘Skill Lab’ at the institute that will address the employability skills and social skills to contribute meaningfully to communities.

Prof. (Dr). Jyotsna Yagnik, Former Principal Judge, City Civil and Sessions Court, Ahmedabad in her special address asked the students to make best use of the opportunity to be at this university. She motivated students to have courage and persistence to achieve desired goals in chosen field of endeavour.Also gracing the occasion was Mr K K Patel, Vice President, Nirma University.

On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and Institute of Law, Nirma University. The same will encompass exchange of students and members of faculty as well as other academic activities- research and publications. They will also develop joint training and research programmes in a collaborative spirit.
