Institute of Law, Nirma University organized Inaugural Ceremony of its two week Orientation Programme  (12-27th July) for the New Batch of B.A. LL.B (Hons) and B.Com LL.B. (Hons) students. Prof. Dr. Purvi Pokhariyal, Director & Dean, Institute of Law, delivered the welcome address. She congratulated the students for securing admission at one of the finest law schools of the country. She appraised the audience that ILNU has added more flexibility, introduced many new electives, and initiated skill law courses. This year the institute is also starting ‘Lawyers Incubation Clinic’ to prepare students for litigation. She urged the students to show rigour, passion and openness for the study of law.

Prof. (Dr) R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor-National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, Guest of Honour,delivered the Keynote address. He asked the students to chase their dreams. He motivated students that they must have ‘Passion’ for what they do and‘compassion’ for whom they do it.He also asked students to collaborate as ‘Geniuses are never created in isolation’. The Chief Guest of the Program,Honourable Mr. Justice C K Thakkar, Judge (Retd) Supreme Court of India, in his ceremonial address talked about his journey as a student of law, Advocate and Supreme Court Judge. He discussed the lessons of his life he learnt in profession and urged the new batch of students to take keen interest in all subjects of law as well as social sciences as there is a high degree of relevance across disciplines. He also released brochure of ‘Skill Lab’ at the institute that will address the employability skills and social skills to contribute meaningfully to communities.

Prof. (Dr). Jyotsna Yagnik, Former Principal Judge, City Civil and Sessions Court, Ahmedabad in her special address asked the students to make best use of the opportunity to be at this university. She motivated students to have courage and persistence to achieve desired goals in chosen field of endeavour.Also gracing the occasion was Mr K K Patel, Vice President, Nirma University.

On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and Institute of Law, Nirma University. The same will encompass exchange of students and members of faculty as well as other academic activities- research and publications. They will also develop joint training and research programmes in a collaborative spirit.

As per mandate of UGC and NAAC, every academic institution is required to maintain high academic standards and teacher quality. In order to promote research culture and dissemination of research related tools, methods and acumen, a Refresher Program for faculty members of ILNU was conducted between 25th June to 7th July, 2018. The two week Refresher Program was titled ‘Art and Science of Thinking and Research: Augmenting Interdisciplinary Approach in ICT Era’. The Refresher Program was organized by Institute of Law under the aegis of Centre of Quality Assurance and Academic Development (CQAAD), Nirma University. With a total learning / training of 72 hours, the program invited scholars, practitioners, technocrats, ICT experts and researchers from prestigious institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Gujarat Institute of Development Studies, MS University Baroda, Indian Law Institute, Delhi, IP University, Delhi to name a few. Prof. GS Bajpai, Prof. Afzal Wani, Prof. Vidyut Joshi, Prof. Tara Nair, Prof. Madhusudan Bandi, Prof. Arun Pratap, Prof. Ramadhar Singh, Prof. Lajwanti Chatani, Prof. Vijay Raghavan, Prof. Suman Mitra, Prof. Bhaswat Chakaborty, Prof. Lalita Narayanan are some of the nationally acclaimed speakers who enriched the Refresher Program for the benefit of the participants. Constituent Institutes on campus such as Institute of Technology, Institute of Pharmacy also provided expertise and resource persons in various aspects of inter-disciplinary aspects of developments in research process. Prof. Dhawal Pujara, Prof. Urmil Dave, Prof. Santosh Vora gave sessions on research output presentation techniques, Nirma University Research Policy and use of SCOPUS respectively. Participants took the inputs given by experts and developed various research proposal components such as Statement of Problem, Literature Review, Critical Review and Case Comment on the chosen area of study. At the completion of the program, faculty team was able to identify their thrust areas, research methods, ICT Tools, Statistical Methods and various research methodologies. It is expected that faculty / research teams will finally apply the inputs of the FRP in desired thrust areas and come out with Minor Research Project Proposals.

We are delighted to share with you that the Legal Aid Clinic, Institute of Law, Nirma University has been selected and awarded by Knowledge Steez & Youth for Human Rights, India. The Award of Excellence for Contribution in Social Justice and Legal Aid has been given to our Committee at the 3rd National Conference on Human Rights & Gender Justice 2018 at Indian Law Institute, New Delhi on 23rd June 2018. The aim of the Conference was to bring together academicians, students, human right activists and other intellectuals on one platform to discuss the various issues concerning human rights and to discuss the measures to curb such issues.
