In a tumultuous year, Institute of Law, Nirma University has remained focused, steady, and strong. Our mission of Re-inventing Legal Education has never been as important.

As the academic year 2017-2018 draws to a close, we review a small, representative selection of achievements of the institute, from among the many International and National accomplishments. The students have made us proud by imprinting their names in all fields of excellence.

The year 2017-2018 included milestones for ILNU, as well as accolades.

Institute of Law, Nirma University, emerged as the winners of the 17th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition (India National Rounds) and the 13th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition (South Asian Rounds) held at Kathmandu, Nepal. The team also stood as the quarterfinalist at the 16th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law, Moot Court Competition held at Hong Kong.

This dramatic overtime win added to the epic chain of victories and the Institute likewise qualified for the world rounds of Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition, 2018 and International Rounds of 3rd Prof. N.R.Madhav Menon SAARC Mooting Competition.

We also participated in the 14th Nani Palkhivala Tax Moot Court Competition - 2018 and were declared as the winners of this competition.

The team from Institute of Law, Nirma University, was declared as the winner of the 7th Amity International Moot Court Competition 2017 organised by Amity Law School, Noida.

We also witnessed a winning feat at the 16th Surana and Surana National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition and Judgement Writing Competition 2018.
A team of students from the Institute won the Justa Causa Moot Court Competition 2018.

The team representing the Institute was also adjudged as the runners up of the Manfred Lachs India Funding Rounds, 2018.

Further we have also made a winning streak in the SLS Pune Arbitration Competition, GLC, Trivendrum, Moot Court Competition and the GH Raisoni Mock and Moot Court Competition.
To add on, the Institute also won the Great Britain Debate 2018, organised by the British Deputy High Commission of Great Britain in collaboration with Gujarat University.

Apart from these, the students have put forth a remarkable show of excellence in other competitions as well, the following is the list of achievements -

  • Semi-Finalist - Amity National ADR Tournament, 2017 (Negotiation).
  • Semi-Finalist - 4th All India Gurcharan Singh Tulsi Criminal Law Annual Moot Court Competition, 2018. (National Trial Advocacy Competition).
  • Semi Finalist - VIPS DRCC, 2018.
  • Quarter Finalist - 8th Dr. Paras Diwan Memorial International Energy Law Moot Court Competition, 2018.
  • Quarter Finalist - Amity National ADR Tournament, 2017 (Med-Arb).
  • Quarter-Finalist & Best Researcher - UPES Dehradun Moot Court Competition.
  • Quarter Finalist, Best Speaker & 2nd Best Speaker - GLC Ernakulam Moot 2018.
  • Quarter Finalist - Leiden Sarin Air and Space Moot

  • Best Memorial - Amity International Moot Court Competition, 2017.
  • Best Memorial - SLS Pune International Trial Advocacy Competition, 2018.
  • 2nd Best Memorial - PN Bhagwati Memorial Moot Court Competition.

The Institute further congratulates Ms. Devi Jagani for securing a place in the Oxford University for her LLM. She was also selected for the Harvard Summer School in 2017.

We appreciate students for their tremendous efforts during 2017-18 academic session, and we look forward to continuing the legacy thereby ensuring brighter futures in the upcoming session.

ILNU organized a distinguished lecture on: ‘Implicit Bias’ delivered by Justice Mel Flanagan. Prof. Dr Purvi Pokhariyal – Dean and Director of Institute of Law, Nirma University welcomed Justice Mel Flanagan (Circuit Court Judge and Adjunct Professor, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA), Prof. Stephen Barnes (Associate Dean, Penn State Law, Pennsylvania State University, USA) and Susie Muise (Interior Designer & Paint Professor, California) while all of them remain fascinated with kind of dynamic legal education ILNU is offering. ILNU also congratulates all the academic achievers of lst year and hopes that all students at ILNU keep progressing with heads held high for various upcoming achievements.

The Legal Aid Clinic, Institute of Law Nirma University organized a legal awareness camp at Jamiyatpura village, Gandhinagar on 04th of February 2018. A well-rehearsed and well-executed skit was performed by the students to explain several rights available to labourers and women under various Indian Laws to around 30 residents of the village in a primary school situated over there. They were also encouraged to approach the consultation panel of the legal aid committee for their legal queries and issues. The attendees showed great enthusiasm and response.

Legal Aid Clinic, ILNU aspires to contribute to the legal literacy of needy and poor through its upcoming initiative.
