The captioned FDP was convened at Institute of Technology under the auspices of CCE, Nirma University (NU) and conducted by Dr. Y. N. Trivedi, Professor in EC, IT-NU. The program was envisioned for the research scholars in the field of wireless communications. The main objective of the program was to provide basic fundamentals of probability theory, random variables and wireless communication systems (WCS) such as Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems, Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) systems and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems. Different transmission schemes such as transmit beamforming and space time coding, and different combining schemes such as maximum ratio combining, equal gain combining and selection combining were discussed. Spatial multiplexing and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) were discussed in Rayleigh fading channel. Performance of these systems in terms of BER, outrage probability, average SNR and channel capacity was analysed with different assumptions of channel and its availability at the transmitter and receiver. Spectrum sensing techniques in cognitive radio was also discussed. Recent cellular standards such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced were discussed. In the sessions, simulations for the performance of WCS were also done. Few research papers were taken as case studies for the participants. The course was scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays for 50 hours.
The participants consisted of varied strata of teachers, researchers and PG students. There were seven interested participants from various institutes such as CSPIT (Changa), Government Engg. College Godhra, Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad. L D Engineering College Ahmedabad, G H Patel College of Engineering V. V. Nagar.
All the participants felt delighted while appreciating the program. They appreciated schedule of the program as they get enough time to revise the contents of lectures and to suggest innovation in the current literature. Secondly, due to Saturdays and Sundays, it was very easy for them to attend this FDP without disturbing daily schedule while teaching was going on. The majority was highly enthusiastic in expressing their gratitude and applauding the way how our renowned institute has convened and hosted the program in the high esteem in their feedback and also suggested to conduct such other programs in near future.
