Forensic Psychology– Application in Civil and Criminal Justice Administration

Understanding criminal psychology and its application in criminal justice administration has become a significant factor for consideration. The research in science is constantly advancing and so is the change in studies related to psychology. Preventive techniques of crime and criminal behaviour are an ever-evolving tools in the police and law order enforcement. Undoubtedly, Criminal Psychology emerged as an unquestionable area in the administration of justice especially in the fields of police, juvenile, correctional, and prison administration. The professionals in this field have made significant advances with scholarly research and practice in their professional pursuits of Criminal Psychology and Criminal Justice Administration.

Towards advancing this knowledge domain, the National Workshop on Forensic Psychology was organized at Smart Classroom at Institute of Law, Nirma University on 20th October 2018 with overwhelming response from the participants from all across India. The number of external participants was more than the number of internal participants. The diversified domain knowledge of the expert speakers from areas like Forensic Psychology, Medical Science, Police, Judicial, and Criminal Justice added value to the workshop. The workshop was organized by the Centre for Criminal Law and Justice in association with Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) and coordinated by Dr. Shamiulla, Assistant Professor, Institute of Law, Nirma University. Prof. (Dr.) Purvi Pokhariyal, Director and Dean, acknowledged and welcomed the expert speakers, gave a brief introduction of the theme of the workshop and her welcome address marked at the heart of the workshop. The expert speakers for the workshop were Dr. Jyotsna Yagnik Former Principal Judge, Arbitrator, Trainer in Law & Director, Yagnik Law Academy, Dr. Ajay Chauhan, Superintendent of Government Hospital for Mental Health and State Nodal Officer for Mental Health, Gujarat, Dr. Asha Srivastava, Principal Scientific Officer, CFSL, CBI, New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) S. L. Vaya, Retired Addl. Director, Directorate of Forensic Science, Gujarat, Mr. K.V. Ravi Kumar Director, Institute of Security Sciences and Management, Raksha Shakti University, Gujarat. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Shamiulla gave vote of thanks to all the speakers and everyone who has been part of organizing the workshop, the student team of ILNU including the participants from all across the India.
