A workshop for aspiring engineering Students (the students who had passed standard – XII) on the  "Engineering Mathematics - A Tool or Engineers" was conducted by Department of Mathematics & Humanities, under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. The main objective of the workshop was to develop good problem solving skills related to Engineering Applications. The workshop got very good response and total 33 participants attended the workshop. The sessions were conducted by our Internal faculties Dr. Sandeep Malhotra, Dr. Mahesh Yeolekar, Dr. Kunal Pathak & Dr. Motilal Panigrahi.

Engineering Graphics, as one the foundation courses to students of all engineering discipline, a 3 Days Interactive Orientation Program titled as “Engineering Graphics – A Language of Engineer” for aspiring engineering students was conducted by Mechanical Engineering Department, under Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. The objectives of program are to understand the importance and application of engineering graphics, to understand the drawing instruments, to know methodology for preparing the engineering drawing to develop approach for learning the course with few fundamental topics and to develop visualization with the help of audio – visual aids and models.

The program got very good response and was participated by 23 aspiring engineering students. The fundamental topics of Engineering Graphics like Introduction to Engineering Graphics, Drawing Instruments and their use, Projection of Point, Projection of Line, Projection of Plane, Projection of Solid, Orthographic Projection, Sectional Orthographic Projection and Isometric Projection were discussed. The program was coordinated by and all the sessions were conducted by Prof. Anand S. Patel (Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department). The sessions were conducted with audio – video aids, models and animated solution of problems to understand and to develop visualization & imagination. The reference solution of problems was also shown to participants for better understanding of actual drawings.

A two day workshop on “Back End VLSI Design” was organized by Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University during April 6 – 7, 2018. The program was conducted under the coordinator-ship of Prof. Akash Mecwan, Assistant Professor and Prof. Vijay Savani, Assistant Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University.

Total Six sessions were conducted. On 6th April, 2018 total three sessions were conducted. Typical design ASIC and CIC design flow was discussed and hands on were carried out using VLSI CAD Tool. The complete flow of design and implementation of operational amplifier was discussed. Hands on session was conducted for simulation using mentor graphics tools was carried out. On the second day (7th April 2018) Prof. Vijay Savani covered Layout to GDS Flow, followed by the process variation, PVT, Corner analysis and Monte Carlo simulation was discussed. Prof. Akash Mecwan had coved the various issues and challenges in RF Design. He had also demonstrated and carried out the hands-on sessions for various simulation methods for RF circuit design.

The program was attended by 14 participants from institutes like VVP Engineering College, Rajkot and Nirma University. The student participants were streams like Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Department of Electrical Engineering organized a Two Days Workshop on “Enhancing Power System Capability through FACTS” for students, faculty, research scholars and industry personnel during 17th and 18th March, 2018 under Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). The programme mainly focused on the advances of power electronics technology that has led to the development of devices which in turn has enabled better utilization of existing transmission systems. All the sessions were conducted by internal faculty namely Prof. Dr. P. N. Tekwani (HOD, EE). Prof. Dr. S. C. Vora, Dr. Akhilesh A. Nimje, Dr. Siddharthsingh K. Chauhan and Prof. Chintan R. Mehta. These sessions were proper blend of class room and laboratory sessions on PSCAD, POWERWORLD SIMULATOR and MATLAB that helped the participants to analyse the critical issues. There were total 11 participants in the programme which included 10 participants from Nirma University and 1 external participant from SRCIT Ankleshwar. Out of these, 9 participants have successfully attended the programme. Participants were enlightened by the thought provoking discussions with the experts.

After the valedictory, the programme came to an end, leaving fond memories in the minds of expert speakers and a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment among all the participants, faculty and staff who were associated in its preparation.

Institute of Science, Nirma University and Biocare Research India Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad jointly organized a workshop on “Wastewater from Characterization to Treatment” under the banner of Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University during 12th to 14th March, 2018. The Resource Person for this workshop was from a UNESCO organization, Prof. Eric van Hullebusch , Chair Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, IHE – Delft, Netherlands. This Institute is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world. The technical sessions conducted by him for two days focused on wastewater and its characteristics, need and challenges for the treatment, microbial metabolic diversity and its role in treatment, aerobic and anaerobic modes of wastewater treatment and various test parameters to monitor the treatment. A talk was delivered by Shri Deepak Davda, CEO, Green Environment Services Co-op. Soc. Ltd., CETP, Vatva, Ahmedabad. Dr. Nasreen Munshi also conducted sessions on microbial aspects of wastewater treatment and on assessment of functional microbial diversity of wastewater microbial community. The workshop ended with a half day visit to CETP, Vatva.

The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Nasreen Munshi from Institute of Science and Dr. Purvi Zaveri (Desai) from Biocare Research (I) Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad. The total number of participants were 32, of which 25 were from different Industries, Consulting Firms and CETPs, rest were students and faculty members from outside Nirma University. The workshop got very good response and appraisal by the participants. The event also got covered by various newspaper articles and notes. Biocare Research (I) Pvt. Ltd, Institute of Science and Centre for Continuing Education Nirma University are thankful to the industries which sponsored generously for making this event possible.

Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) organized a three days Management Development Program (MDP) on Effective Team Building & Leadership on February 21-23, 2018, for industry professionals under the aegis of Center for Continuing Education, Nirma University. Prof. Nina Muncherji, Associate Professor was the programme leader.

Twenty Two (22) participants from Seven organizations, Dresser-Rand India Private Limited, A Siemens Business, Sunshine Tiles Co. Pvt. Ltd.. Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, Essar Oil Ltd., GSPL India Transco Ltd., Gujarat State Petronet Limited and Nirma Limited attended the programme.

Prof. Nina Muncherji , Prof. Harismita Trivedi, Prof. Hardik Shah , Prof. Tripura Joshi , Prof. Sameer Pingle and Mr. Abhay Joshi from IMNU engaged 14 sessions in three days.

Two day workshop for the Faculty members, Industry personnel, PG students and Research scholars on "Power Electronics for Renewable Energy Systems and Power Quality Issues” was conducted during 17-18, February 2018 by Electrical Engineering Department, under the aegis of Center for Continuing Education, Nirma University. The workshop addressed on areas of performance analysis of grid connected solar as well as wind energy systems and their issues, different inverter topologies used for renewable energy systems and their control, power quality issues and devices used for mitigating power quality issues. The workshop received very good response and total 26 participants attended the workshop, out which seven were external participants comprising of faculty members as well as research scholars of different institutions. The sessions were conducted by eminent industrial experts - Shri. Yashpal Patel (Sr. Manager R & D Dept, Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronic Pvt. Ltd., Gandhinagar), and Shri. Vinod Patel (Dy. GM -R&D, Amtech Electronics India Limited, Gandhinagar) and our internal faculty members - Prof. Dr. P. N. Tekwani, Dr. Siddharthsingh K. Chauhan and Prof. Manisha T. Shah. The workshop proved to be effective in achieving its objectives of learning to the participants.

A workshop on the "Computer Aided Drug Design Software" was conducted by Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Pharmacy under Center of Continuing Education, Nirma University on 17th February, 2018. The main objective of the workshop was to provide conceptual insight as well as demonstration of important software used for computer aided drug design (CADD). The workshop got very good response and total 48 participants attended the workshop. The sessions were conducted by internal faculties; Dr. Jignasa Savjani, Dr. Vivek Vyas, Dr. Bhumika D. Patel and Ms. Palak K. Parikh while software demonstration and hands on training on some CADD tools were given by research scholars; Mr. Udit Chaube and Ms. Keerti Vishwkarma.

Department of Pharmacognosy, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University organized on day workshop on ““Application of Analytical Techniques for Herbal Drugs Research” under Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) held on 6th January, 2018 (Saturday). Dr. Subrata De, Consultant, Zoetic Ayurvedics Pvt. Ltd was the chief guest and one of the speakers for the workshop. He gave his talk on “Overview on Applications of Analytical Instruments in Natural Product Research”.  Dr. Rina H. Gokani, Director & CSO, Accuprec Research Labs Pvt. Ltd., gave a talk on the topic “Recent Advancement in Quality Control of Herbal Medicines”. There were total 44 students and faculty has been participated in the workshop from various institutions. In the workshop participants got the exposure of various sophisticated instruments like GC, HPLC, HPTLC, FT-IR and Spectroflourimetry.

A workshop for B.Tech students on the  “Finite Element Analysis using  CAE pakages” was conducted by Mechanical  Engineering Department, under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. The main objective of the workshop is to provide knowledge and hands on practice of finite element analysis softwares.  The workshop got very good response and total 14 participants attended the workshop. The sessions were conducted by our Internal faculties of design and thermal department.

A workshop for M.Tech students on the  "Advanced Finite Element Analysis using CAE Packages for engineers and working professionals" was conducted by Mechanical Engineering Department, under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. The main objective of the workshop is to provide knowledge, giving  hands on practice  of finite element analysis softwares on mechanical components.  The workshop got very good response and total 21 participants attended the workshop. The sessions were conducted by our Internal faculties of design and thermal department.

A program titled "solid modeling using CAD software" was organized under Center for Continuing Education, Nirma University.The purpose behind the program was to provide training of CAD modeling  to degree mechanical engineering students which has become a key skill required in mechanical industries now a days. Total 30 undergraduate students participated in the program. The program sessions were delivered by faculties having expertise in the field.The program was coordinated by Dr.Jatin Dave and Prof.Rudresh Makwana.

"A workshop for the UG & PG students of Institute of Pharmacy titled “Hands on Training for HPLC & GC" was conducted by Pharmaceutical Analysis Department, Institute of Pharmacy under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. This Training Programme was intended to provide basic understanding, operation and hands on training of sophisticated instruments like High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) and Gas Chromatograph (GC). The workshop got very good response and total 27 participants attended the workshop, though the maximum limit of participants was restricted up to 20. The sessions were conducted by our internal faculty (Prof. Priti Mehta & Dr. Charmy Kothari) and hands on training was given by research scholars of Pharmaceutical Analysis Department, Institute of Pharmacy.

Two days programme on “Orientation to pollution control laws” was conducted by Institute of  Law, under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. The main focus of  the Programme was to impart basic understanding of the pollution related laws i.e. Water (Prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1974, The Air (Prevention and control of pollution) Act, 1981 and The Environment Protection Act, 1986. It aimed to provide basic understating of the pollution related laws to develop holistic understating of the environmental related issues. Total eight participants attended the programme . All of them were outside the University. The sessions were conducted by Dr.Madhuri Parikh, Mr.Bishwa Kalyan Dash and expert- Mr.Mahesh Pandya , Director , Paryavaran Mitra.

A workshop for the UG and PG students on the  "Analysis of Electrical Systems using Simulation Tools" during 7/10/2017-8/10/2017 was conducted by Electrical Engineering Department under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. The main objective of the workshop is to provide the concept and idea to the students regarding the development of models and to analyze solution of various electrical design problems using some standard software such as MATLAB and PSCAD. The workshop got very good response and total 26 participants attended the workshop out of which two participants came from outside colleges. The sessions were conducted by our internal faculty having wide teaching and research experiences in the field of power electronics and power system ( Dr Akhilesh Nimje, Dr. Siddharthsingh Chauhan, Dr. Gulshan Sharma, Prof. Sarika Kanojia, Prof. Chintan Mehta, Prof. P N Kapil, Prof. Akhilesh Panwar and Prof. Sukant Sahoo from IT-NU, Ahmedabad.

Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) organized a two days Management Development Program (MDP) on “Decision Making & Problem Solving Skills for Managers” under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) on September 14-15, 2017, for industry professionals. Prof. Harismita Trivedi & Prof. Sapna Parashar, Faculty coordinator for Sr Associate Professor and Associate Professor were the programme leaders.

 

Eight(08) participants from three organisations, Hazira LNG Pvt. Ltd., Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL), and Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd..  attended the programme.

Prof. Harismita Trivedi, Prof. Sapna Parashar, Prof. sameer Pingle & Prof. Rajesh Kikani from IMNU engaged 10 sessions in two days (schedule attached). On last day, each participant gave their inputs, on how they will develop an Action Plan on Decision Making & Problem Solving Skills in their respective organization.

Director Prof. M. Mallikarjun provided certificates to the participants. Overall, participants showed high satisfaction from the programme.

One day workshop on Medical Writing was organized by Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) on 21st September 2017. Dr. Harish Padh, Professor Emeritus, National Law University and chief guest of the function delivered the key note address. Dr. Anupama Ramkumar, CEO and Chief Consultant, Arkus Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd., focused on clinical study documentation in her talk. Total 55 delegates participated in this workshop wherein 15 participants were from other colleges and hospital. Internal faculty members provided hands-on training on various components of medical writing to the participants.
