A two day training was conducted at Institute of Architecture and Planning to learn Python and how it can be useful in the realm of Climate Responsive design. Participants of the training programme were students.

A two day workshop was conducted at Institute of Architecture and Planning to understand the techniques involved in Photography. Hands on exercises were conducted in order to  understand the nuances involved in photography.

One day program on “Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing” jointly organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Institute of Technology and Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, Ahmedabad was organized for B. Tech. (Mechanical), Sem. VI students on 6th April 2019 (Saturday).

The program has been participated by 29 students of B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering), Sem. – VI. The different topics like dimensional tolerance, evolution of geometric dimensioning tolerance (GD & T), key terms & standards related to GD & T, feature control frame, symbols, form tolerances, datum, datum features, application of datum, orientation tolerance, position tolerance, profile tolerance, run out & total runout with practical case were discussed. The sessions were conducted with audio – video aids and animation for better understanding and to develop visualization.

A two day workshop on “Back End VLSI Design” was organized by Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University during April 5 – 6, 2019. The program was conducted under the coordinator-ship of Dr. Akash Mecwan, Assistant Professor and Dr. Vijay Savani, Assistant Professor of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University.

The program was intended for faculty of technical Institutes teaching or doing research in the areas of Back End VLSI Design. Other than this industry personal who want to get hands-on practice on for the various tool used in the area of back end VLSI design. It was also open for PhD research scholars and UG/PG students interested in exploring the tools used in VLSI back end design.

The lectures and hands on sessions were conducted on topics such as Digital Design Flow using CAD tool, CIC Flow (From Schematic to GDS), Process variation and Monte Carlo simulations, Op-Amp design and implementation using mentor graphics tool, and RF Circuit Design and Simulations. Hands on sessions were conducted on different Tools for back VLSI design.

The program was attended by 10 participants from institutes like VVP Engineering College, Rajkot and Nirma University.

On 5th April, 2019 total three sessions were conducted. Typical design ASIC and CIC design flow was discussed and hands on were carried out using VLSI CAD Tool. The complete flow of design and implementation of operational amplifier was discussed. Hands on session was conducted for simulation using mentor graphics tools was carried out. On the second day (6th April 2019) Dr. Vijay Savani covered Layout to GDS Flow, followed by the process variation, PVT, Corner analysis and Monte Carlo simulation was discussed. Dr. Akash Mecwan had covered the various issues and challenges in RF Design. He had also demonstrated and carried out the hands-on sessions for various simulation methods for RF circuit design.

The participants appreciated the various laboratory sessions and the hands-on sessions. The presentations of all the sessions along with other material was shared with the participants through google drive. A written feedback was taken from all the participants and a summary of same is enclosed along with the report.

Overall it was a happy learning for the participants and a nice experience for the organizers too.

This is the brief  summary of  one-day workshop on “Application of soft computing in Electrical Engineering” organized by Electrical Engineering Department, School of Engineering, Institute of Technology with Centre for Continuing Education programme, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, which was conducted on date 16 March 2019. There were 11 total participants  from different domain of electrical engineering of Nirma University Ahmedabad attended the workshop along with three internal speakers of soft computing research area.

The workshop began with opening remarks by Dr.S.C. Vora ( Professor & Head, Electrical Engineering Dept. Nirma University, Ahmedabad) on the current status, scope and application of soft computing in basic and applied research. The entire workshop was divided into the three sessions. The first session begun with introduction to soft-computing techniques in electrical engineering. A detail introduction of soft computing techniques was covered by Prof. Kuntal Bhattacharjee (Associate Professor, Nirma University). Second session was conducted by Prof. Shanker D. Godwal (Assistant Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad)., The session was on “how to develop objective functions and constraints for soft computing techniques”.  After the lunch break, third session was chaired by Prof. A.B.Panwar (Assistant Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad). In third session Prof. A.B.Panwar conducted mat lab session which was based on soft computing techniques (mainly PSO,GA)    Finally, Professor Shanker D. Godwal and Prof. Kuntal Bhattacharjee (Program coordinators ) conveyed their  gratitude to all participants, invited speaker. They extended their thanks to the organizing committee members and their efforts, and expressed his satisfaction with the interactive nature of the discussions during the meeting.

This summary captures a one-day programme of presentations, panel discussions and interactive session at the seminar series on CRISPR/Cas9 in Genome Editing, organized by Institute of Science with Centre for Continuing Education programme, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, which took place on 2 March 2019. There are 65 total participants healing from different parts of Gujrat (CSMCRI, Navrachana University, KSV University, Indrashil University, Ahmedabad University and Nimra University etc) attended the seminar along with five eminent external speakers from prominent research institutes and industries (ICGEB, THSTI, CDFD, Reliance and Thermo Fisher) and various faculty members from the multiple institutes.

The seminar series began with opening remarks by the programme co-ordinator Dr. Kuldeep Verma, (Assistant Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad) on the current status, scope and application of precise genome editing technology in basic and applied research. The entire series was divided into the two sessions. The first talk begun with basic technology of CRISPR/Cas9 system and experimental methodology to achieve the highest success rate in genome editing by Dr. Arindam Chakraborty (Product Specialist, Thermo Fisher, Mumbai). The next speaker was Dr. Bhasker Bhadra, (Assistant Vice President, R&D Reliance Industries, Mumbai) who delivered his talk on high-throughput genome editing to improve the biofuel production in algae. Further, Dr. Nisheeth Agarwal, (Associate Professor, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad) discussed his current research on CRISPR interference for essential genes in mycobacterium.

After the lunch break, second session was chaired by Dr. D L Gupta (Assistant Professor, Nirma University, Ahmedabad). The first talk in this session was to improve the nutritional quality traits in rice by Professor M K Reddy (Group Leader International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi). Dr. Murali Dharan Bashyam, (Head of Molecular Oncology, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad) delivered his talk on application of CRISPR/Cas9 technology in cancer treatment. Finally, Professor Sarat Dalai (Director, Institute of Science) conveyed his gratitude to all participants, invited speakers and panellists. He extended his thanks to the organizing committee members and their efforts, and expressed his satisfaction with the interactive nature of the discussions during the meeting.

A workshop on the "Computer Aided Drug Design Software" was conducted by Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Pharmacy under Center of Continuing Education, Nirma University on 16th February, 2019. The main objective of the workshop was to provide conceptual insight as well as demonstration of important software used for computer aided drug design (CADD). The workshop got very good response and total 33 participants attended the workshop.

A Workshop On EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODELS AND DRUG EVALUATION TECHNIQUES was conducted on 19th February, 2019. Dr. Sanjay Mandhane, Associate Vice President, Pharmacology, Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Limited, served as chief guest and delivered the key note address. Several participants from different parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan from various pharmacy institutes and industries attended the workshop. There were total 46 participants. Surgical models for stroke and invasive method of measurement of blood pressure, heart rate and hemodynamic parameters were demonstrated. An insight into molecular techniques like Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and hematoanalyzer were also provided through demonstration.

A two days workshop on “Simulations of Wireless Communication Systems using OCTAVE” was organized on January 19-20, 2019. The workshop was convened at our institute under the auspices of CCE, Nirma University (NU) and conducted by Dr. Y. N. Trivedi, Professor in EC, IT-NU.  The objectives were to understand various wireless communication systems in the presence of wireless fading channels and to develop a unified structure of simulation codes for getting BER performance for different wireless systems. The workshop provided detailed introduction of simulations for wireless communication systems. Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of various wireless systems such as Single Input Single Output (SISO), Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO), Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) and Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems were considered with simulations using open source software OCTAVE. Different techniques such as transmit beam forming, space time coding, combining techniques, spatial multiplexing and spectrum sensing were be used in the systems. The participants consisted of teachers, researchers and students. The interested participants were from various institutes such as Indus University (Ahmedabad), M S University (Baroda), Silver Oak college of Engineering, Ganpat University (Mehsana) and PDPU (Gandhinagar).

A two day workshop on Photography was held on December 24th and 25th at Institute of Architecture and Planning as part of the Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University. Twenty eight participants (students) representing various institutions from across India participated in the workshop. The participants acquired skills and techniques required in the field of photography. The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Pratima Singh, from Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University.  The workshop was appreciated by the participants Glimpses of the workshop are presented in the images.

Institute of Management, Nirma University (IMNU) organized a two days Management Development Program (MDP) on Leadership Style & Skillsunder Center of Continuing Education, Nirma University on December 20-21, 2018, for industry professionals. Prof. Harismita Trivedi, Sr. Associate Professor was the programme leader.

Ten (07) participants from three organisations, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd, The Kalupur Commercial Co. Op. Bank Ltd., Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. attended the programme.

A two days program on “Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt” jointly organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, Institute of Technology and Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, Ahmedabad was organized for B. Tech. (Mechanical), Sem. VIII and Sem. VI students on 5th & 6th January 2019 (Saturday & Sunday).

Thirty-eight (38) students had participated in the program. The program designed with interactive sessions (15 Hours) to cover various theoretical aspects of Lean Six Sigma Methodology. The various aspects covered were lean philosophy, six sigma methodology, evolution of lean six sigma methodology, tools and techniques used during different phases of lean six sigma methodology, etc. Three rounds of Lean Six Sigma exercises (in two group), called Simulations were performed. The simulations were on advertisement firm to assign and execute orders. Students prepared the various charts like histogram, run charts, pareto chart, sigma calculation chart, profit and loss chart, etc. and had a feel of improvements using Lean Six Sigma.

A program titled "solid modeling using CAD software" was organized under Center for Continuing Education, Nirma University.The purpose behind the program was to provide training of CAD modeling to Mechanical Engineering students which has become a key skill required in Mechanical industries now a days. Total 16 undergraduate students participated in the program. The program sessions were delivered by faculties having expertise in the field.The program was coordinated by Dr.Jatin Dave and Prof.Rudresh Makwana.

A workshop for the UG, PG and Ph.D. students of Pharmacy, chemical engineering and science background, titled “Hands on Training for Sophisticated Instruments" was conducted by Pharmaceutical Analysis Department, Institute of Pharmacy under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University. This Training Programme was intended to provide basic understanding, operation and hands on training of sophisticated instruments like High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC) and Gas Chromatograph (GC), High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FT-IR) and Spectrofluorimeter. The workshop got very good response and total 38 participants attended the workshop, though the maximum limit of participants was restricted up to 30. The sessions were conducted by our internal faculty (Prof. Priti Mehta & Dr. Charmy Kothari) and hands on training was given by research scholars of Pharmaceutical Analysis Department, Institute of Pharmacy. Dr. Charmy Kothari and Dr. Nrupesh Patel was the Coordinator for the Program.

Understanding criminal psychology and its application in criminal justice administration has become a significant factor for consideration. The research in science is constantly advancing and so is the change in studies related to psychology. Preventive techniques of crime and criminal behaviour are an ever-evolving tools in the police and law order enforcement. Undoubtedly, Criminal Psychology emerged as an unquestionable area in the administration of justice especially in the fields of police, juvenile, correctional, and prison administration. The professionals in this field have made significant advances with scholarly research and practice in their professional pursuits of Criminal Psychology and Criminal Justice Administration.

Towards advancing this knowledge domain, the National Workshop on Forensic Psychology was organized at Smart Classroom at Institute of Law, Nirma University on 20th October 2018 with overwhelming response from the participants from all across India. The number of external participants was more than the number of internal participants. The diversified domain knowledge of the expert speakers from areas like Forensic Psychology, Medical Science, Police, Judicial, and Criminal Justice added value to the workshop. The workshop was organized by the Centre for Criminal Law and Justice in association with Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) and coordinated by Dr. Shamiulla, Assistant Professor, Institute of Law, Nirma University. Prof. (Dr.) Purvi Pokhariyal, Director and Dean, acknowledged and welcomed the expert speakers, gave a brief introduction of the theme of the workshop and her welcome address marked at the heart of the workshop. The expert speakers for the workshop were Dr. Jyotsna Yagnik Former Principal Judge, Arbitrator, Trainer in Law & Director, Yagnik Law Academy, Dr. Ajay Chauhan, Superintendent of Government Hospital for Mental Health and State Nodal Officer for Mental Health, Gujarat, Dr. Asha Srivastava, Principal Scientific Officer, CFSL, CBI, New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) S. L. Vaya, Retired Addl. Director, Directorate of Forensic Science, Gujarat, Mr. K.V. Ravi Kumar Director, Institute of Security Sciences and Management, Raksha Shakti University, Gujarat. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Shamiulla gave vote of thanks to all the speakers and everyone who has been part of organizing the workshop, the student team of ILNU including the participants from all across the India.

Centre for Corporate law Studies, Institute of law organised in Collaboration with Centre for Continuous Education “Advanced Certificate in International Business Taxation Law” scheduled on 15st September to 20th October 2018 (5 Weekends). The course was conducted with an objective to provide orientation with the basic concepts of international business taxation law, covering income tax and transfer pricing, BEPS and MLI India Position which affect the corporate entities in India. This course is designed to provide participants with the essentials of international taxation law.

A workshop for the Faculty, UG students, and industry person on the “Interactive application using Python" was conducted by Instrumentation and Control Engineering Department, Institute of technology, Nirma University under Center of Continuing Education Nirma University.

The main objective of the workshop is to learn the basics of building simple interacting applications like how to develop basic graphical games using python programming language and to learn contents which are graphical and can respond to buttons, the keyboard and the mouse, which is conducted with hands on practice. Students have learnt a new browser-based programming environment that makes developing interactive applications in simple python code. Hardware demonstration using real time python interfacing application is conducted.  The workshop got very good response and total 10 participants attended the workshop, out which one participant came from outside college. These all sessions were conducted by internal faculty (Prof. Vishal M. Vaidya) who is also the main coordinator of this workshop
